I am a happily married full time mom of 2 children, 5 year old Sydney and 20 month old Logan. I am a non-conservative suburban dweller which means I don't always fit in hence the title uncommonmom. Actually, now I live out in the corn and it's even worse! : ) If I could live anywhere I would live in Greenwich in Manhattan but since I am not Sarah Jessica Parker, I am sure that I will stay in Illinois.
After many years and a religious journey, I am happily Atheist.
"An Atheist loves himself and his fellow man instead of a god. An Atheist accepts that heaven is something for which we should work now – here on earth – for all men together to enjoy. An Atheist accepts that he can get no help through prayer, but that he must find in himself the inner conviction and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and to enjoy it. An Atheist accepts that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can he find the understanding that will help lead to a life of fulfillment." -American Atheists (http://www.atheists.org)

If you want to add me as a friend, comment and tell me where you found me. I will not add you if you simply found me through an LJ search. Things to think about before adding me. I do not take kindly to intolerance. I am 100% for gay rights and a woman's right to choose. I include under the umbrella of a "woman's right to choose," the right to choose what to do with her breasts after she gives birth, the right to work in or out of the home, and the right to remain an actual person while mothering. I write a lot about atheism and my true feelings about religion. I don't mince words, and I don't apologize for my points of view. I am open to other points of view, but I am not here to argue with you if you want to argue, find a good debate community because if you debate me, you will likely lose, and I will just be annoyed.
I am a politics addict. I am a social liberal and a fiscal moderate.
"No matter what your political orientation is, if you don't stick up for the freedom of all opinion, eventually the wheel will turn, you'll be the minority and you'll have written the rules by which you yourself are squashed." --Keith Olbermann
My house is always messy and I am really really unorganized. I would love to change that, but I just don't think it is within my capacity. I am trying - daily.
I love to sing and I don't do it enough anymore. I would love to find an outlet for that.
I love to read. My favorite books are - "1984" by George Orwell, "Wasted" by Marya Hornbacher, and "Madness: a bipolar life" by Marya Hornbacher. I have always loved reading but almost completely stopped after having children. I am trying to get back into the habit.
We are a family of video game players and LOVERS. I'm frighteningly good at puzzle games. Really - too bad I can't make millions of dollars playing them. I don't think I am quite geeky enough to hang with most gamers for many reasons - so I guess I am like 85% geek. We currently have an Xbox 360 and a Wii.
Lastly - for now anyway - I love art and being creative and simply don't have enough time to do it. I hope to find the time soon.

At some point, I may make this journal public again but for now it is friends only.
